Sony withdraws PS3 Firmware 2.40 Update

July 17th, 2008 admin

Sony pulls out their newest firmware upgrade for PlayStation 3, as reports from users that it has cause their units to crash.

After Sony released firmware 2.40, reports of issues began pouring on the official PS3 message board. The most commonly noted issue is systems basically stop working upon booting, instead getting jammed on a screen with only the well-known “wave” background showed.

A number of posters have reported that taking out the PS3 hard disk, formatting it using a PC, afterward re-inserting it makes the PS3 to boot well but with the understandable downside of losing all that was saved on the drive.

Major enhancements in the newest firmware are access for instant messaging within the game and additional PS3 features, such as changing settings, improved message size limit, playing music from the user’s library and checking downloads. Also, the latest firmware set up a trophy system to reward players for game performance. Several games that present Trophy support are Quiz TV, BUZZ!, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, LittleBigPlanet, PAIN, NBA 09 - PS3, PixelJunk Eden, Warhawk and Resistance 2, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation.
